“Scenes From The Spring/Summer Moon”

Ah, “Spring has Sprung”, as they say; pastures are super green, lush, and plentiful, for all of our spoiled alpacas, and gone rather quickly I must say, are our over 100 inches of snowfall for the 07/08 winter season.

Spring shows went well, especially Mapaca. GreyBeard’s Black Angus, as well as GreyBeard’s Auburn Jewel, each took a 3rd place in tough classes.

Our newly acquired (thank you Tripping Gnome Farm) TGF Drifter, a Snowmass Legacy Gold son, took a Blue Ribbon and The FAWN MALE COLOR CHAMPIONSHIP, at just 7 months old! Stay tuned for more news of this amazing young male.

We also purchased a beautiful dark silver grey young female (as a future date for Drifter), Whispering Winds Smoldering Skye, from our friends at Whispering Winds Alpacas in New Hampshire. Skye took a Blue at NAAS, and a 2nd at Mapaca. Go Skye.

Spring right on thru Fall will be “new cria” busy for us, 3 due end of May, 1 in June (our own Wolverine’s 1st), 2 in July (one our long-awaited and much anticipated) breeding to Neruda to our Full Peruvian, True-Black, GreyBeard’s Black Jewel, 2 in September, and finally the last one in October.

Lots of events going on as well.

• May 25th from 10am-4pm at the Annual Spring Open House at Long Plains Alpacas in Buxton Maine. Visit www.longplainsalpacas.com for info on the events, Fiber Arts, Pen Sale, Speakers, and more.

• Tres Farm Yarns (our joint collaboration with Tripping Gnome Farm, and White Barn Meadows) will be a vendor at The Fiber Frolic in Windsor Maine on June 7th and 8th.
Visit www.fiberfrolic.com for further info and directions.

• On June 21st we’re hosting an Alpaca 101/102 seminar with Melissa and Lou Ferrera of New England Alpacas. Visit our “News & Events” page for complete details.

• And finally on July 20th from 10am to 3pm we are a participating farm for, Get Real Maine Open Farm Day. Our barn farm store will be open featuring our new soft and luxurious alpaca yarns, my original photography, and more. Come meet our new babies as well. Visit www.getrealmaine.com/visit/open_farm_day.html for further info.

Per usual we welcome your phone calls, emails, and farm visits.

Thank you to Cloud Hollow Farm for their 1/2 interest purchase in GreyBeard’s Black Angus, and to Hidden Gem Alpacas for their purchase of GreyBeard’s Wicked Kareen. Both of these new farms are located here in Maine. Welcome.

Take a look at our current sales list now exclusively listed on, www.alpacanation.com.
We have some really nice alpacas for sale.

Enjoy my new photos of the afore mentioned, Drifter, Skye, the girls out grazing (spot our neighbor’s new 150lbs at birth baby Clydesdale), Barn cat General Buford and a friend, and GreyBeard’s Auburn Jewel who appears to be turning that beautiful reddish-maroon color as her mom is. Love that color. We’re all about color, oh and exquisite fleeces, great bodies, calm temperaments, and great heads, here at Full Moon Alpacas.

Please also visit our new “Gallery” page for more of my original photography. And our “Farm Store” page has some beautiful yarns on sale.

Take care and happy grazing,
Darlene & Michael Reardon

“Scenes From The Winter Moon”

Ah winter in New England, and most especially Maine, can be beautiful, but oh so cold and a bit challenging to say the least. But truly the beauty of the winter skies seems to make up for it all.

For us it began in earnest in early December, lots and lots of cold and snow. Snowiest December on record to date they say. The alpacas don’t seem to mind it, but then again they are not the ones doing all of that shoveling. But it gets them out and about, and they do seem to greatly appreciate it.

Our farm was also recently selected as a vendor February 22nd-24th, for the annual Freeport Knit & Spin Fiber Spa. It’s a joint collaboration between our farm, White Barn Meadows Buxton Maine, and Tripping Gnome Farm Freeport Maine. The new venture is aptly title, Tres Farm Yarns.

We are also participating in the Royal River Alpaca Company Second Annual On Farm Pen Sale. This is being held on Saturday March 29th. Royal River is located in North Yarmouth Maine. We will have several alpacas for sale in this event. Please visit, www.royalriveralpaca.com.

Full Moon Alpacas will be attending two alpaca shows in the spring of 2008. And I’ve already begun to halter train our 4 entries. The Last Don’s Apollo, GreyBeard’s A Perfect Storm, GreyBeard’s Black Angus, and our very own special little girl, GreyBeard’s Auburn Jewel. Their calm temperaments produced both by their genetics, as well as the peaceful and calm environment here on the farm, make my job a whole lot easier.

First is The North American Alpaca Show April 3rd-6th in Springfield Mass at The Eastern States Exposition Center. Please visit, www.naalpacashow.com for further info.

Second is MAPACA Alpaca Show April 24th-27th in Harrisburg Pennsylvania held at, The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. Please visit, www.mapaca.org/jubilee for further info.

Will also be doing the Annual Spring Open House Event at Long Plains Alpacas on Sunday May 25th from 10a-4p. Long Plains Alpacas is located in Buxton Maine. There will be Fiber Arts, a Pen Sale, Speakers, and much more. Please visit, www.longplainsalpacas.com

Wolverine began working last summer, and we eagerly await the arrival of his first three cria.

Last summer we also finished our on-site farm store, which features natural colored yarns, and some beautiful dyed merino wool/alpaca blends, all from the fleeces of our fabulous alpacas. Also featuring some original designs, as well as my line of original photography (sold and packaged as blank greeting cards.)

Per usual we welcome your phone calls, emails, and farm visits.

Take a look at our current sales list now exclusively listed on, www.alpacanation.com. We now have some really nice alpacas for sale.

And since the skies were so magnificent I decided to post a few (sans alpacas this time), except for our own Stormy, who seems to be asking, “is it spring yet” in this shot. And I answer, “yes soon enough our green pastures will return, but then our beautiful winter skies and snow will all just disappear”. Enjoy.

Take care,
Darlene & Michael Reardon

“Scenes From The Late Summer/Early Fall Moon”

From fiery sunsets, rainbows, pink clouds, new babies, and a few tranquil evenings spent down at our pond, it’s been an exciting and busy summer on the farm.

We were very lucky to have four beautiful and healthy babies born on the farm. Three males, and one beautiful female. Three from GreyBeard, and one male, from The Last Don. Pictures of all of them can be seen on the, "Foundation Herd & New Cria" page.

Wolverine also began working this summer, and we are very excited about his future cria arriving early next year.

On September 29th & 30th, from 10am to 4pm, we will be participating in the first annual, “National Alpaca Farm Day”. Visit www.nationalalpacafarmday.com, for further info. This is an AOBA (Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association) sponsored event.

Full Moon Alpacas will be at the “New England Coastal Classic” Alpaca show on October 13th & 14th, held at the Pineland Equestrian, New Gloucester Maine. Please visit, www.necoastalclassic.com, for further info.

This summer we also finished our on-site farm store, which features natural colored yarns from our beautiful alpacas.

Our Farm was also recently selected as a vendor in February of 2008, for the annual, Freeport Knit & Spin Fiber Spa. It’s a joint collaboration between our farm, White Barn Meadows, and Tripping Gnome Farm. This new venture is aptly titled, Tres Farm Yarns.

Per usual we welcome your phone calls, emails, and farm visits.

Take a look at our current sales list now exclusively listed on Alpacanation.com.

Enjoy the new farm scenes. The 2 baby pictures are of the 1st male, and female born on the farm. Light-fawn male is, GreyBeard’s A Perfect Storm, and the medium-brown female is, GreyBeard’s Auburn Jewel.

Take care,
Darlene & Michael Reardon

“Scenes From The Spring Moon”

Spring has certainly sprung, as they say. And isn’t it a truly glorious time of the “alpaca” year?? Show season is over, and we turn our full attention to getting everyone out of their winter coats (aka being shorn) and being able to enjoy a pleasant spring out grazing to their heart’s content.

We were not able, as planned, to attend Nationals this year, but we did enter our Wolverine’s fleece, and he received a BLUE RIBBON!! Very exciting. He’s a handsome fellow for sure, and hopefully soon to be a “working” fellow. If you know what I mean?

Christian Gold (our true-black 4Peruvian Altiplano Gold son) has returned from being boarded off the farm for the winter. I’ve included a new picture of him, in full fleece, as he is looking pretty nice indeed, and we look forward to his 1st offspring this September.

We are expecting 5 new cria this year. One from The Last Don, Christian Gold, and 3 new GreyBeard babies. Our farm is growing slowly, but surely.

Take a look at our current sales list now exclusively listed on Alpacanation.com.

Our new web-site has also been launched, at www.fullmoonalpacas.com. Take a quick peak and drop us a note to say what you think. Also, our email address has changed and is now, fullmoonalpacas@roadrunner.com.

Our farm store is still being constructed, so I will be doing The Fiber Frolic, here in Maine, to sell some of our beautiful raw fleeces, roving and fine yarns. Hope to see some of you there.

So stop on by for a farm visit soon, and I promise I’ll have a pitcher of fresh-squeezed lemonade, a bowl of cherries, and a platter of Skinny Cows ready for you!! And if you do not know what Skinny Cows are, you’ll have to come on by and find out.

Enjoy the new farm scenes.

Take care,
Darlene & Michael Reardon

March 14th, 2007
Well it’s been one month since the BIG Valentine’s Day blizzard we experienced here in Maine this winter. Good old Mother Nature dumped about 18 inches of the powdery stuff on us, just as we were thinking that the winter had been a pretty easy one. But it’s Maine, it’s winter, and it sure was pretty. And there’s something magical about seeing your cria bounce about discovering their first taste of snow. Makes your heart and spirits soar.

Mike and I have survived, and made out just fine, during this our first Maine winter and tending to all of our critters. The alpacas, bunnies, barn cats and Muscovy ducks. Despite a few challenges, water freezing in the barn early on, poop pile being perhaps just a bit too far away, etc, it’s just about coming to an end. At least we think so?

So we’ve turned our focus to halter training our two new GreyBeard daughters, as well as refresher courses for our “champs” on the lead, Wolverine and Carnelian.

I will, once again, be going solo to the shows, so my Vice President, Ranch Manager, and Farm Hand, my wonderful Husband Michael, can tend to the farm. Look for me/us at, The North American Alpaca Show, MAPACA, and at the Nationals in Kentucky.

Today as I write this, there is a feeling of SPRING, in the air. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and the temperatures are well into the 40’s, and approaching near 50 by tomorrow. Yeah!

Enjoy these new “blizzard” pictures. And hopefully, the next time I update this, I will have some new pictures of all of our beautiful pastures coming in, preparing for the next batch of the wonderful forage we’ve thus far been able to produce here on the farm.

So we’re gearing up all life on the farm for the busy Spring ahead. Getting the barn cats ready to mouse, the Muscovys ready to insect control, and our alpacas ready, once again, to begin to graze on our lush pastures.

Stay warm and see you all at the up-coming Spring shows.
Darlene & Michael Reardon

December 23, 2006
Finally our Alpacas have arrived!! And of course, ever so fitting for our farm’s name, the first 5 to arrive on November 5th 2006, did so by the light of a Full Moom! The moment could not have been more perfect. Then on “lucky” November 13th, the other 11 also arrived safely on the farm. All seem happy and content in their new home. And if they only knew the amount of dedication and hard work it took to properly prepare the old farmstead for them, I know they’d be most appreciative.

Our work began in earnest in May of this year, and didn’t end until literally our alpacas we’re being un-loaded from the trailer that morning. To sum up what we worked on from sun up to sun down is the following…Removed all old fencing. Moved tons of dirt/fill to level off and provide drainage for the dry lot areas. Cleaned out the 3-story “girls” barn. (removing horse corrals and re-working the area for alpacas). Added another ½ to the existing 3 sided goat barn for the new “boys” barn. Both barns, new and old, each were given large over-hangs. Installed 5 ft. high no-climb fencing, creating 3 separate pasture areas (about 3 acres).

So finally on November 14th we rested. Well that is after we did our morning mucking and feeding. But we both couldn’t be more happy to have them all finally here on our farm. We have our true black Altiplano Gold son, Christian Gold, now working (with an introductory stud fee of just $1000.00), and waiting on our little guy, Wolverine, to hopefully begin working in the Fall of 2007. Look for him still in the show ring in the Spring of 2007. And of course, last but certainly not the least, is the man, Greybeard. Or should I say the Alpaca? He consistently has put out since a high level of off-spring in an array of colors, including blacks, fawns, and grays. He resides still at Chase Tavern Farm (we co-own him with them), so please contact them soon and reserve your Spring breeding today.

We also now have quite a nice selection of “Foundation Herd” females, and look forward to the births, on our farm, of 5 new cria in 2007. Also please check out our new up-dated Sales List. We’ve recently added some outstanding Females for sale. Pictures are of the completed, “Phase One” stage of barns and fencing at Full Moon Alpacas, and of most of our beautiful “multi-colored” herd.

Stay warm and see you all at the Spring shows.
Darlene & Michael Reardon

April 8, 2006
Ah the warmer weather of Spring is finally upon us. And with this warm weather comes a whole lot of outside work, here at Full Moon Alpacas.

We have begun demolition of the old chicken coop, and horse riding ring. All standing in the way of the flow of our pastures. Mike won a bid on EBay for a newer John Deere tractor and has been working daily to rip down all of the old un-wanted structures.

Soon will have a huge dumpster brought in, and discard all of the old stuff, which we’ve ripped out of the house over the Winter. It’s truly amazing how quickly one can fill several of the horse corrals inside the old barn.

Check out the demolition photos, Mike’s new “TOY”. Also I think some baby Alpacas have already arrived!

So calling all Fencing enthusiasts. Fencing Party at some point will be on tap.

Will work really really hard all Spring and early Summer, in anticipation of the arrival our Alpacas by mid-Summer. Then the adventure truly begins.

Keep checking back for future farm updates and pictures.

Take care and Happy Spring!!
Darlene and Michael
